MAINTAINING YOUR DELIVERANCE
ONCE YOU GET delivered, your work is not done, but it has just begun. Most people think that getting free is the hard part, but it isnât. Staying free is the challenge. In Exodus 14:5, immediately after Pharaoh let the children of Israel go, he realized what he had done, and he went after them. It is no different today. The devil does not want you to be free, and he will come after you to try to get you back into his grip. This is why the Word says not to be entangled into yokes of bondages again. Galatians 5:1 (CEV) says it like this: Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and donât ever become a slave to Satan or your familyâs bondage again. Getting free is easy because Christ has already paid the price for our freedom, but we must do our part and hold on to that freedom.
We must understand the importance of holding on to our salvation, because if we donât, the Word of God is clear that we will be in a worse condition than before we gained freedom.
In 2 Peter 2:20 (ISV), it says, âFor if, after escaping the worldâs corruptions through a full knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled and conquered by them, then their last condition is worse than their former one.â It also states that if we donât maintain our deliverance when the devil returns, he brings seven more spirits with him (Mat. 12:43â45).
The children of Israel had escaped Pharaoh, but they continually wanted to return to bondage. Egypt was a familiar place to them, and it had become a mind-set. Even though they were physically free, they were still in bondage in their minds. This may be the case for many of you. Early in my years of salvation, as I was getting liberated from some bondage, I couldnât understand why I kept being defeated in certain areas. I knew I didnât want to be as the children of Israel and never obtain my promised land. I can remember my spiritual mother would always say, âYou are already free.â So if I was free, why then was I not experiencing victory in certain areas? It was the question I would ask myself. I began to seek God, and he gave me this formula that I now use, and it has helped me to maintain my freedom. He began to show me that I was being defeated because I had not changed my mind-set.
There was work to be done. I needed to reprogram my mind, and God gave me four steps that have changed my life: recognize, recover, renounce, and replace.
